Freedom Motto Statement:
"Blazing Trails of Excellence"
On behalf of the Freedom Team, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the Freedom Trailblazer Website! Our theme this year, "Unlock Your Potential" perfectly describes the sense of community here on the Trailblazer campus – its parents, staff, and students working together to make Freedom a high-performing academic school and a place where we believe in ALL kids and support them to be the best they can be in mind, body, and spirit, each and every day on the Trailblazer Campus. We believe our entire community is the "KEY" to Blazing Trails of Excellence!
Freedom Elementary is a suburban K-6 school located in southeastern Clovis, California, within the Clovis Unified School District. Freedom opened its doors to 450 students in 2002 and has become a campus of 762 students in 2014. Proudly, the culture established in our founding years has remained constant: adhering to rigorous academic standards, implementing researched and standards-based curriculum and instruction, and maintaining a strong sense of family and community ownership.
Freedom Elementary was built in the wake of the tragic events of 9/11/01. The community wanted a name that would help students remember and know that Freedom carries with it a responsibility and accountability, and that Freedom is for all people. The name "Freedom Trailblazers" was the perfect answer for our school's name. Freedom students exhibit pride in our country and show appreciation for the heroes who have given much to provide for their freedom by making a positive impact in our community. Former President Ronald Reagan (for whom our school's area is named) taught us, "We must do a better job of getting across that America is freedom – freedom of speech, religion, and enterprise, that's special and rare. We must teach history based not on what's in fashion but what's important." The Freedom community has met this challenge many times by donating over 6,000 books to needy students, supporting community charities such as Pennies and Pasta for Patients, Kids Day, Character Counts Activities, and other activities that bring Reagan's words to life. Our neighboring Regan Educational Center joins the Freedom community as we "Blaze Trails of Excellence".
Today, Freedom's student profile is 43% Caucasian, 30% Hispanic/Latino, 16% Asian, and 11% representing ethnically diverse students with backgrounds that include African-American, Filipino-American, American Indian, and Pacific Islander. Our English Learners comprise 12% of the student population, with thirteen different languages represented. Thirty percent of our students are socio-economically disadvantaged. There are approximately 60 students on our campus that receive Special Education services. As Freedom Elementary has doubled in student population since our opening in 2002, the student-demographics have remained unchanged. Our academic achievements are not only growing with our increasing student body, but accelerating as well.
Our staff is dedicated to continuous improvement of academic standards for all students, working tirelessly to align curriculum with district and state standards. Staff members give countless hours to ensure the academic, emotional, and social well-being of all our students is met. Teachers volunteer to facilitate support groups for students, direct intervention programs, and coach co-curricular activities. Staff members participate at Carnivals, run in the Jog-A-Thon, perform skits at rallies, and support families in times of need. The Freedom staff brings a passion for learning and love for students in everything they do. We have earned the coveted Clovis Unified School District Exemplary School Award each year that our school has been in existence! Freedom is the strength of our country – Freedom is our school!
